Togo's soybean producers aim to increase production to 300,000 tonnes during the 2026-27 agricultural season, with organic farming serving as the main driver of the sector's expansion. The Interprofessional Council for the Soybean Sector of Togo (CIFS-Togo) unveiled the target late last week in Agbélouvé, in the Plateaux Region, during the official launch of the new agricultural campaign.
Mounirou Koriko, Chairman of the Board of CIFS-Togo, said the strategy responds to sustained international demand for organic soybeans. "Our sector has a bright future because demand continues to grow. Our country has ranked as the leading exporter of organic soybeans to the Schengen area on four occasions, and we intend to maintain that position," he said. To achieve its target, CIFS-Togo plans to strengthen coordination among producers, technical and financial partners, public institutions and private-sector operators.
The organization also aims to improve the sector's performance by strengthening industry coordination and expanding production capacity. CIFS-Togo identified several operational priorities to support production growth. These include establishing a system to assess demand for agricultural inputs, expanding access to quality seeds and strengthening cooperation across every segment of the soybean value chain.
The organization said the 300,000-tonne target reflects its determination to consolidate the gains achieved in recent years and reinforce Togo's position among the world's leading exporters of organic soybeans.
National soybean production reached just over 260,000 tonnes in 2025. Although the new production target represents an increase over last year's output, it remains well below estimated market demand of nearly 700,000 tonnes, according to CIFS-Togo.
Nevertheless, the sector has recorded sustained growth over the past decade. According to data from the interprofessional council, national soybean production increased from less than 25,000 tonnes in 2015 to more than 260,000 tonnes in 2025, highlighting the crop's emergence as one of Togo's leading agricultural export commodities.
