The ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID) signed an €80 million financing agreement with Coris Holding in Lomé on July 30 to expand access to finance for businesses, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and small and medium-sized industries (SMIs), across the countries where the banking group operates.
The financing will support businesses in Togo, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Mali, Senegal, Benin, Niger, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau and Chad, among other markets.
EBID President George Agyekum Donkor and Coris Holding Chief Executive Officer Diakarya Ouattara signed the agreement. The facility will finance projects across the agriculture, agribusiness and energy value chains.
Moreover, the credit line will strengthen the refinancing capacity of Coris Holding's banking subsidiaries. The additional liquidity will allow the group to increase lending to businesses and support productive investment across the region.
According to EBID, the transaction aligns with its GRO 2026-2030 strategy, which focuses on promoting growth, strengthening resilience and optimizing West African economies.
"Through this partnership with Coris Holding, EBID expands access to long-term financing for SMEs and productive sectors, thereby contributing to regional integration, job creation and sustainable prosperity," George Agyekum Donkor said.
Coris Holding operates across several West African countries and ranks among the leading banking groups in the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU). SMEs account for more than 70% of the group's loan portfolio, making them the primary beneficiaries of the new financing facility.
The agreement extends an existing partnership between the two institutions. In 2024, EBID approved a $70 million financing line for Coris Bank to support SMEs in Togo, Burkina Faso, Benin, Côte d'Ivoire and Senegal.
In Togo, where the agreement was signed, Coris Bank International continued its expansion in 2025. The bank reported CFA615.5 billion in total assets, up 10% year-on-year, while serving more than 90,000 customers.
During the year, the bank extended CFA108 billion in new loans, reinforcing its position among the leading financiers of the Togolese economy.
