Togolese official Madadozi Teziké has been appointed director of Agriculture and Rural Development at the ECOWAS Commission for a four-year term. The appointment came as ECOWAS renewed its senior officials in late August 2026 in Abuja, Nigeria.
Before his appointment, Teziké served as secretary-general of Togo’s Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Animal Resources and Food Sovereignty. Official communications from the ministry in 2026 identify him in that role.
In his new position, Teziké will work on regional agricultural policy, rural development and food security. He takes office as West Africa faces challenges in strengthening food-system resilience and responding to climate change.
In July 2026, ECOWAS was developing a new agricultural risk-financing mechanism in Lomé designed to complement its Regional Food Security Reserve. According to figures presented at the meeting, the reserve had been mobilized 27 times over the previous decade and had enough capacity to meet the needs of 3.18 million people for one month.
ECOWAS also launched a €20 million project in Lomé in early September to promote agroecological innovations. Coordinated by the Regional Agency for Agriculture and Food, the program is financed equally by the French Development Agency, AFD, and the European Union, EU. The project aims to improve family farmers’ incomes and strengthen their resilience to climate change.
