Togo will experience temporary electricity supply disruptions from July 31 to August 6, 2026, due to scheduled maintenance at the Kékéli Efficient Power thermal plant, one of the country’s main generation facilities.
The Togolese Electric Energy Company, or CEET, announced the disruptions on Thursday, July 30. The state-owned utility said the work would focus on the plant’s generation equipment and improve its reliability, helping to ensure a more stable power supply in the longer term.
CEET said the maintenance was necessary to keep the equipment operating properly and prevent more serious failures that could cause prolonged outages. The company said it was taking steps to limit the impact on customers and restore normal service as quickly as possible.
The maintenance comes as Togo continues to experience recurring power cuts in Lomé and several other parts of the country. CEET has attributed the outages to constraints on the national grid, rising electricity demand and maintenance on critical equipment. Reduced electricity imports through regional interconnections have also contributed to the problem.
The pressure on the grid comes despite efforts in recent years to expand generation capacity and improve electricity access. The government is investing in several energy projects to meet rising demand and achieve universal electricity access by 2030.
