Sondou Adéwa has become the new president of Togo's Union of Regional Chambers of Trades (UCRM) after elections held during last month's renewal of the country's artisanal sector institutions. Adéwa officially assumed office last week during a ceremony chaired by Minister of Economy and Strategic Foresight Badanam Patoki. He succeeds Issa Mouhamed and will serve a four-year term at the head of the umbrella organization representing Togo's Regional Chambers of Trades (CRM).
During his tenure, Adéwa will represent the interests of artisans, strengthen the organization of the sector, and increase its contribution to the country's economic development.
Adéwa takes office as Togo completes the nationwide renewal of its Regional Chambers of Trades.
The new president will oversee several strategic priorities, including the professionalization of artisans, the improvement of their competitiveness, and the promotion of a sector that the government considers a key driver of employment creation and wealth generation.
During the inauguration ceremony, Badanam Patoki urged the newly elected chamber officials to continue implementing reforms that support the artisanal sector in line with national development objectives.
"These actions must align with the National Craft Development Policy, the various pillars of Togo's National Development Strategy, and the projects set out in the 2026–2031 Government Roadmap," the minister said.
Established in November 2016, the Union of Regional Chambers of Trades (UCRM) serves as the national coordinating body for Togo's Regional Chambers of Trades.
The organization represents artisans' interests before public authorities and development partners, coordinates the activities of regional chambers, and contributes to implementing public policies aimed at developing the artisanal sector.
The UCRM also supports the sector's organization and professionalization while providing opinions on subsidy applications submitted by Regional Chambers of Trades to the government and institutional partners.
